Accuplacer

The Accuplacer test is provided to any interested VPP student, at no cost, by the APS and the Community College of Aurora (CCA). This test is used to determine college readiness and eligibility for concurrent enrollment courses both at VPP by dual certified CCA instructors and at CCA campuses.

The Accuplacer test includes:

  • Math – 2 sections:
    • The Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) test assesses the following knowledge and skills:
      • Rational Numbers, Ratio and Proportional Relationships, Exponents, Algebraic Expressions, Linear Equations, Linear Applications and Graphs, Probability Sets, Descriptive Statistics, Geometry Concepts
    • The Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) test assesses the following knowledge and skills:
      • Linear Equations, Linear Applications and Graphs, Factoring, Quadratics, Functions, Radical and Rational Equations, Polynomial Equations, Exponential and Logarithmic Equations, Trigonometry
  • English - 1 section that covers:
    • Reading Test
      • The Reading test assesses your ability to derive meaning from a range of texts and to determine the meaning of words and phrases in short and extended contexts. Passages on the test cover a range of content areas, writing modes, and complexities. Both single and paired passages are included.
    • Writing Test
      • The Writing test evaluates your ability to revise and edit multi-paragraph text.

Test dates are added to the assessment calendar as information comes from the district. If you are interested in taking the Accuplacer, please speak with your counselor.

Prior to taking the exam, students are required to:

  1. Apply to CCA for a student number (S#) and to the College Opportunity Fund (COF) before signing up to take the Accuplacer.
  2. Check-in with your counselor about your testing date.
  3. Check your school email prior to testing about your testing day and time. Report to the Testing Center (at the front of the Learning Commons) at your scheduled time or look for a pass in your 1st period.

Testing Policy

It is important to do your best when taking the test. A student can only take the Full English or the Math twice 3 year period. It is strongly advised to prepare for your test, as you will not be allowed to retest before the next year.

After the Test

Once you complete the test, you will automatically receive your test scores. Your score will be sent to your counselor after the test and the counselor will meet with you about your placement in concurrent enrollment and/or CCA classes .
