Hello, my name is Gabriel Alsina. I was born in Puerto Rico and lived there till the age of eighteen when I was fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to attend the University of Kansas. After obtaining my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from KU, I worked as an oil field engineer in Texas, California, Egypt, and Wyoming.
In 2008, I decided to pursue a career in education. I spent the subsequent years at the University of Wyoming obtaining a certification in science education, teaching STEM summer camps, instructing Earth and Space science, and later, earning a Master's in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am extremely passionate about science and engineering because I've seen first-hand how a good education can help a student follow their dreams. I am very excited to join the Vista Peak family as a science and STEM pathway teacher. I'm looking forward to sharing my love of and experience with STEM with students.
Other things about me:
I enjoy playing and listening to music. I taught myself how to read music and play the piano at an early age and later began learning the guitar as well. My wife is a music teacher in a neighboring school.
A second hobby of mine is cooking. At an early age I enjoyed helping my mom in the kitchen. I enjoy trying out new recipes, cooking for friends and family, and trying out new foods wherever I travel.
