Rebecca Otis-Sanders

Hello! My name is Rebecca Sanders, the Student Advocate for Freshmen and Seniors (A-G). I hail from a small farm town in Illinois, about 60 minutes from St. Louis. I attended Maryville University where I received my Bachelor Degree (History) and Master’s Degree (Secondary Education) before moving to Colorado where my husband, Ben, was finishing school. We have two young sons, Karl and Henry, who keep us very busy! I started in education as a Social Studies teacher at a brand new charter school in Aurora in 2006. I worked in both middle and high school classrooms and helped found the teacher coaching program. Through my work with this program, I realized my passion for supporting teachers and working with more students in addition to those in my classroom. To focus more on Instructional Coaching, I took a position at another charter school (all-boys) in Denver Public Schools. Here I was a teacher and Instructional Coach and would later become the Assessment Coordinator. It was here that I was accepted into the University of Denver’s Educational Leadership for Successful Schools Program. In conjunction with my work in the program, I also began work within the Aurora Public School district. This year, upon successful completion of the DU program, I took on the opportunity to join the Vista Peak family as a Student Advocate. I am excited to see what this new position holds and the work I will be able to do within the school community.
