Please note the finals schedule for Monday June 5th and Tuesday June 6th.
Schedules for the 2017-2018 school year will available on Parent Portal July 10th. At that time, all students will have access to see their schedules online.
If you do not look at your schedule on Parent Portal, then you will also have a chance to receive a copy of your schedule at check-in/registration on July 26th or July 27th.
Counselors will be available only on July 26th and July 27th from 8:30 - 11:00am and 12:30 - 2:00pm during Registration/Check-In for any schedule change requests for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. Freshman are not allowed to make schedule changes. No schedule change requests will be accepted through email or by phone. Students must come to school to meet with counselors, in person on a first-come, first-serve basis at the designated times above if requesting a schedule change. No schedule change requests will be accepted after July 27th at 2:00pm.
JULY 26th and JULY 27th ARE THE ONLY DAYS TO REQUEST SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR. (ONLY APPLIES TO SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, AND SENIORS. Freshmen are not allowed to make schedule changes.)
Please remember that you were advised to put careful thought and planning into your course requests. Classes offered at VPP are based on staffing, student requests, and teacher recommendation.
Requests for schedule changes will be honored only if there is an “academically compelling reason”.
ACCEPTABLE reasons for a schedule change include the following:
- Requesting and/or my teacher recommends a level change (Honors, Pre-AP, AP class Add- or Drop) based on my academic skill level or performance.
- Student would like to be a Teacher Assistant/Office Intern and wants to drop an elective or off period and replace it with a TA/Intern class.
- Student missing a required class from my schedule.
- Student is scheduled for the same course two times.
UNACCEPTABLE reasons for a schedule change include, but are not limited to:
- Request for a particular teacher
- Student wants the same class time as a friend
- Request to NOT have a particular teacher
- Student wants a particular class during a particular period
- Student desires a particular lunch
- Student job schedule
One last stage play is coming to VP this Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Come see Forever Plaid June 1st-3rd @ 7pm. This is your last chance to see several of our alumni in a new play! We hope to see you there!
High school pals Sparky, Jinx, Smudge, and Francis -- the “Plaids” -- are talented “guy group” -- just four nice young men who love singing harmony. They practice in the basement of Smudge’s family’s plumbing supply company, play proms and department stores, and dream about success. When the Plaids are killed in a car accident on the way to their first big gig -- at the Airport Hilton Cocktail Bar, on February 9, 1964 -- the young men linger in limbo, as unresolved as their final chord, until the conjunction of various “astro-technical” phenomena allows them to return to Earth, perform their final concert, and hopefully win a place in Heaven == and the deluxe plaid dinner jackets of their dreams. Will they overcome asthma, ulcers, nerves, and forgotten lyrics? Will they find the perfect chord? With a warm and clever book by Stuart Ross, Forever Plaid is a delightful, mischievous, and unashamedly heartwarming homage to the sweet and innocent sounds of the ‘50s and the ‘60s, and features harmonically spectacular orchestrations of popular hits such as “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “16 Tons,” and “Love Is a Man-Splendored Thing”.
We will be having an SAT Breakdown for all interested Juniors on June 1st from 3:30pm-4:30pm in the Learning Commons. We will have trained staff members who will be available to answer questions regarding the most recent administration and help guide students to their desired academic paths. Make Summer Safe for Kids
Summer is a great time for kids to enjoy different indoor and outdoor activities. Whether they are young children or teens, learn ways to keep your kids safe and healthy while they enjoy the summer fun.
Master water safety
Water-related activities are popular for getting physical activity and have many health benefits. Here are some tips to stay safe while having fun.
- Always supervise children when in or around water. A responsible adult should constantly watch young children.
- Teach kids to swim. Formal swimming lessons can protect young children from drowning.
- Learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Your CPR skills could save someone’s life.
- Install a four-sided fence around home pools
- Recreational boating can be a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends. Make boating safety a priority.
- Wear a properly fitted life jacket every time you and your loved ones are on the water.
Beat the heat and sun
- Heat-related illness happens when the body’s temperature control system is overloaded. Infants and childrenup to 4 years of age are at greatest risk. Even young and healthy people can get sick from the heat if they participate in strenuous physical activities during hot weather. For heat-related illness, the best defense is prevention.
- Never leave infants, children, or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.
- Dress infants and children in loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Schedule outdoor activities carefully, for morning and evening hours.
- Stay cool with cool showers or baths.
- Seek medical care immediate if your child has symptoms of heat-related illness.
- Just a few serious sunburns can increase you and your child's risk of skin cancer. Their skin needs protection from the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays whenever they're outdoors.
- Cover up. Clothing that covers your and your child's skin helps protect against UV rays.
- Use sunscreen with at least SPF (sun protection factor) 15 and UVA (ultraviolet A) and UVB (ultraviolet B) protection every time you and your child go outside.
Keep mosquitos and ticks from bugging you this summer
- Each year in the United States, emergency departments treat more than 200,000 children ages 14 and younger for playground-related injuries. Fallsat home and on the playground are a common cause of injury.
- Check to make sure that the surfaces under playground equipment are safe, soft, and well-maintained.
- Supervise young children at all times around fall hazards, such as stairs and playground equipment.
- Use stair gates, which can help keep a busy, active child from taking a dangerous tumble.
- A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that can change the way your brain normally works. Concussions can occur in any sport or recreation activity. Learn concussion signs and symptoms and what to do if a concussion occurs.
- Make sure kids and teens wear the right protective equipment for their sport or recreation activity.
- Parents can take many actions to protect their children's health and safety at home.
- Stay smart around the houseby following tips on fire prevention, microwave use, and living with pets. Make sure your pets are vaccinated and teach your children to stay away from wild animals and contact your health care provider if anyone is bitten or scratched.
- Learn healthy home tips for each room in the house.
- Young workers have high job injury rates. Hazards in the workplace, inexperience, and lack of safety training may increase injury risks for young workers. Make sure your teens know their rights, employer and teen worker responsibilities, and what teens under 18 can’t do.
Stop the violence
- Kids can use electronic media to embarrass, harass, or threaten their peers. Take steps to prevent electronic aggression, a term that captures all types of violence that occur electronically.
- As teens develop emotionally, they are heavily influenced by their relationship experiences, including teen dating. Protect your children from teen dating violence. Nearly one in 10 teens reports having been hit or physically hurt on purpose by a boyfriend or girlfriend at least once over a year’s time.
